Movie: Struck by Lightning

In the midst of my summer laziness, Richie and I have been perusing Netflix for something to watch. Our habit is to typically find a show, watch every episode possible, then find something else. We are currently working through How I Met Your Mother and Private Practice.

(For the record, it takes us months to get through shows. When fall rolls around, our TV gathers a good layer of dust.)

Over the weekend neither of us felt like watching a show and decided to watch Struck by Lightning. Have you seen it? It’s a sweet movie about realizing that you don’t have to be defined by the label given to you. Of course, a teenager dies from being struck by lightning… but you just have to watch it to understand the significance of his death. It’s not a tear-jerker; it’s a feel-good movie. Even Richie enjoyed it and he doesn’t generally choose “feel-goody” movies. I definitely want to check out the YA book now (because you know it’s a book, right?).

Do you have Netflix? Can you recommend something for us to put in our instant queue?

  1. I am not at all caught up but I was really enjoying How I Met Your Mother last summer!

    1. I watched bits and pieces over the years, so I'm appreciating watching all that Netflix offers. We're almost finished with season 4 - we've been working through it since last fall.

  2. Doctor Who. The Bloggess said it better than I ever could:

"You either hate it, or it changes your whole life and you spend nights waiting for David Tennant to tell you that you’re the key to saving all the kittens in the universe. It’s ridiculous and silly and requires an enormous willing-suspension-of-disbelief, but some of the most beautiful moments on TV come from Doctor Who. You can watch it for free on Netflix. Start with the 2005 reboot. Watch through episode 10. If you don’t like it you can at least say that you tried and now you can spend your free time looking for the soul that you seem to have lost."

I don't really like sci-fi, but I love this damn show.

    1. I need to try this show then, since I don't like sci-fi either. I've heard nothing but good things. I'm kind of curious to see what all the hub-bub is about.

    2. Give it a few episodes. The first few were a little hit-or-miss for me, but they had qualities that were worth it and something told me I should stick it out. It is a really good show.
